A Century of High-Altitude Stewardship.
Three generations cultivating Arabica across the mist-shrouded volcanic slopes of Bener Meriah since the 1920s.
One Family. One Standard. A Century in the Canopy.
Arabica coffee first took root across the Gayo Highlands in 1908, followed by widespread community cultivation throughout the 1920s. Born from this deep agrarian history, Mulia Farm was established to unite our family’s separate highland plots under a single, uncompromising management standard — aligned in organic cultivation, shade-tree ecology, and transparent lot traceability.
Today, stewarded by the third generation, we nurture these volcanic soils (1,200–1,600 MASL) not merely as farmland, but as a living heritage preserving Sumatra’s most celebrated specialty cultivars.
Preserving indigenous shade trees and farm biodiversity to slow cherry maturation for denser, complex cup profiles.
Hand-picking only peak-ripe red cherries across every family plot, guaranteeing optimal sugar content before processing.
Living Heritage. Uncompromising Ecological Stewardship.
Our hundred-year journey has taught us that coffee is far more than an export commodity — it is the ecological lifeline and cultural soul of the Gayo Highlands. Here are the six core commitments that guide our daily stewardship from volcanic soil to global cup.
Phasing out synthetic chemicals in favor of closed-loop organic composting made from recycled cherry pulp, enriching volcanic microbiology.
Preserving multi-strata shade trees that moderate microclimates while protecting wild civet and native bird habitats across our family plots.
Conducting continuous field workshops for neighboring farming families on organic soil inputs, canopy pruning, and disease prevention.
Inspiring and educating younger generations in Bener Meriah to embrace sustainable specialty coffee farming as a viable, proud lifelong pursuit.
Pioneering controlled closed-tank Anaerobic, 30-day Natural Winey, and Honey fermentation to unlock the purest expressions of Gayo terroir.
Providing full transparency for every harvest lot — including family plot coordinates, harvest dates, cupping scores, and moisture verification.
Experience the Centennial Terroir in Your Roastery.
We offer curated green coffee evaluation sample boxes (300g – 1kg) from Mulia Farm’s specialty harvest, dispatched via express air courier worldwide. Experience the density, sweetness, and distinct cup profiles of Gayo 1 and Gayo 2 on your own cupping table.
A Century of Resilience and Stewardship.
From the first community plantings following the colonial era to a third-generation union of high-altitude family plots, our journey reflects the deep agrarian endurance of the Gayo Highlands.
1920s
The Pioneer Plantings
Following the 1908 spread of Arabica and the 1918 Wilhelmina Blang Gele estate, local families opened the first community plots in Bener Meriah, planting our family’s first roots.
1970s
The Cultivar Revival
When leaf rust crisis struck traditional crops, genetic material from Híbrido de Timor gave rise to superior cultivars: Gayo 1 (Timtim) and Gayo 2 (Borbor), flourishing at 1,200–1,600 MASL.
1997
Direct Export Inception
Gayo Mountain Coffee was established to bypass predatory local intermediaries, initiating pioneering direct export partnerships to the United States (Forestrade Vermont) and global roasters.
TODAY
Third-Generation Union
Under third-generation family stewardship, Mulia Farm unites separate family plots under one strict management standard: agroforestry canopy, organic compost, and full lot traceability.
